In Responce to America's Education System

I agree, as stated by the 50 Stars blog, America does suck in Education but it has shown improvements overtime. For example, the "No Child Left Behind" brought higher test scores to younger students. More progress was made by nine-year-olds in reading in the last five years than in the previous 28 years combined. It has increased the quality of education by requiring schools to improve their performance. Over the time of this law, Congress increased federal funding of education, from $42.2 billion in 2001 to $54.4 billion in 2007. I've also noticed times when kids overseas would come to America and think school is way to easy. I envy those children.

The US Government!

Here is what I think about the US Government today. It is ineffective, costly, and complicated.

Ineffectiveness

Government fails to address the plethora of problems put before it. There always is a lot of talk but rarely any action is ever taken. When the government does move to take action who knows when we can expect results? Just to get something done they have to go through a whole check list of processes and balances to make sure that it is the best interest of the people. When something gets done it rarely even solves the problem and most likely creates even more unanswered question leftover for the future.

Costly

Where has all the money gone? The term “pork barreling” is not known by many people but it is what the use Senators as well as Representatives of House to get reelected. It means bringing money and benefits back home to those who requested it. Costly government programs are hardly ever relevant. Sometimes it is ridiculous for a university to do a research experiment on how beetle lives and reproduces. Another thing, the Senators and Representatives sometimes set their own wages, as much as $130,000 a year! It all comes out of our taxes and then we actually pay them to do their jobs, even if nothing has been done?

Complication

Not many people today are very influenced by the actions of the government. An average American may feel the Government is too complicated to keep up with so they have a real lack in interest. Every American now days rely on the media. The media only gives what people information based on what earns money. The viewers today are only interested on something nosier such as sex scandal of a Senator rather than what actions he or she performed in office.

Health Care Concerns

Read: Health care: Crisis of Epidemic Proportions

I couldn’t find this editorial about health care any less than 100% factual and true. This opinionated response basically explains how poorly the American Government has been taking care of its citizens’ health and also proposes the solutions brought up by our current leading presidential candidates. The writer states “In 2007, 45 million non-elderly people in the United States lacked health coverage.” 45 MILLION?! That is a ridiculous amount of people uncovered. Obama’s plan is great idealistically, but when it takes close to costing $65 billion dollars a year (which was never brought up), that proposes a huge problem. McCain brings up the offer of tax credits; problem with that is a person with higher end health issues such as cancer or something of much more severity won’t be covered with just $5000. It’s tough to have and keep insurance, hard enough trying to get it. To those who are covered, their eyes aren’t open to the hardships of those who aren’t. Those medical bills sky rocket leaving the average American with nothing but a life to live… and a bill for $75,000. There are people in this nation who refuse to step foot in a hospital when they in drastic need of medical attention. It’s a huge contributing factor to our current economical problem but hey, what more debt could we get into? It seems like we will never really be out of trouble. We can’t leave these uninsured people with no hope just because they don’t meet the “criteria” to be considered covered. I know you can’t expect every problem we face to be solved, things just don’t work that way, but the way I see it… priorities in America are all screwed up.

Candidates react cautiously to financial plan

Suddenly there is an interest in the financial problems of America. It recently came to the attention of the two presidential candidates Obama and McCain. I find it really interesting that this was brought to attention so late, this has been a preexisting problem since… well forever. Obama seems to bring up the fact that Bush is our issue, McCain sees it as not much of a problem and Obama is just spreading poor judgment of the factor. McCain's plan I think is ridiculous and most likely won't work to well and Obama doesn't want to discuss the details of his just yet. Take a look at the article yourself, its worth your time. Make sure you take a look at both of the Presidential nominees websites on details about their plan. Our nation really has to get its self out of its debts, the market is going down and U.S. banks are getting into heavy trouble.
